Quire of Voyces
Quire of Voyces The Santa Barbara Quire of Voyces is the premiere choral ensemble at Santa Barbara City College. They were founded in 1993 as a nonprofit group in an effort to rediscover the sacred choral music of the Renaissance Period and the Twentieth Century. The group is dedicated to the highest quality performances of this fine music in historic settings. The Quire of Voyces is made up of talented singers from the Central Coast area. They rehearse once a week and give three concerts annually. They have been featured on KDB 93.7 FM and KEYT TV, and three times in the last year on The First Art, a production of Chorus America, broadcast on National Public Radio. The Quire of Voyces is a performance ensemble currently sponsored by the Santa Barbara City College Music Dept. Open auditions are held for the Quire of Voyces annually in August. Auditions requirements include two solo performances, sight-reading, tonal memory and vocal flexibility tests.
THE DIRECTOR, Nathan J. Kreitzer
The Artistic Director, Nathan J. Kreitzer is the newest addition to the faculty at the SBCC Music Dept. Since joining the department, the enrollment for the choral program is at a record high with three choruses, the sixty voice Concert Choir, the twenty-four voice Chamber Singers, and the twenty voice Quire of Voyces, which is new to the college. Kreitzer hopes to rekindle the days of the 'golden age' of choral music when many people enjoyed the art of choral singing. He began his career in music singing in the church. He later studied voice and conducting at C.S.U. Fresno where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance. He holds a Master's degree in Choral Conducting from U.C. Irvine. As a professional vocalist, he has appeared with the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, the Ventura Master Chorale, the Pacific Chorale of Orange County, the Irvine Camerata, as well as the Oregon Bach Festival Singers directed by Helmuth Rilling. Kreitzer has been singing and conducting professionally since 1989. He currently resides with his wife, Holly, in Santa Barbara where he directs handbell ensembles and youth choirs at First United Methodist Church, teaches Choral Music and Vocal Techniques at Santa Barbara City College, and music at Santa Barbara Christian School. http://www.sbcc.net/academic/mus/choir/qv.dir.htm
