| FROM THE DANCE
James Edwards, Solo Guitar
IN CREATING THESE ARRANGEMENTS, I have tried to approach
the music as if I were actually the composer and had these great ideas
I wanted to write for guitar. How would Debussy have used the guitar if
he possessed a performer's knowledge of its technique! An arrangement
succeeds or fails on its ability to convey the emotions, moods, character
of a piece. To do this well on guitar is much like orchestration on a
smaller scale. So the music here is reflected through my imagination and
the voice of the guitar, and the result, I hope, is a happy union. JE

The Title "From the Dance" was inspired by the
final couplet from Among Schoolchildren by
W. B. Yeats:
O body swayed to music, 0 brightening
glance,
How can we know the dancer from the
dance?
